Building healthy relationships: detecting and managing toxic relationships in your life

Some relationships can leave you emotionally drained. In this workshop we explore the difference between healthy and toxic relationships. We begin by identifying the warning signs of toxic relationships (jealousy, defensive communication, control, blaming, etc.). You can learn to recognise manipulation, controlling behaviour and emotional abuse. The workshop also provides you with tools to set healthy boundaries by practising assertive communication techniques (e.g. learning to say
"no" and setting priorities).

To detect and manage toxic relationships it is important to clearly recognise the characteristics of healthy relationships. For this we use a 3-step model:

  1. Safety (psychological and relational) to create a positive emotional connection.
  2. Emotional bonding and empathy as a basis for establishing commitment in relationships.
  3. Building an open, genuine and trusting relationship system.

The workshop can be useful to prevent any kind of unhealthy relationship, but especially if you have experienced (in the present or in childhood/adolescence) any abusive, narcissistic, controlling, draining relationship. It may have been experienced in a partner, family, work or friendship environment.
