Lending

The loan service is ruled by the Loan Rules of the Library Service of the University of A Coruña and is open to all members of the university community: student body, teaching and research staff (PDI) and administrative and service staff (PAS). It can also be accessed by anyone who requests to be an authorized user.

Access: the card

To use the service you have to identify yourself by showing us your TIU or University Identification Card (in the case of belonging to the university community), or your External User Card. In any case, if you still don´t have your card you can always use your ID, or passport, to identify yourself.

Loan details

The number of works you can borrow and the duration varies depending on the type of user you are:

In our library you will find three types of documents according to its type of loan: normal loan, 5-days loan and material exclusively for consultation in the library, which are distinguished by the color of the label and the code

You will find three types of material according to their loan type.

Normal Loan

Normal loan

Most of the collection has this type of loan. The duration of the loan depends on the type of user (see table)

Préstamo de 3 días

5-days loan - Yellow label/ Black lettering:

Some copies of recommended bibliography, thematic dictionaries and encyclopedias and the whole audiovisual collection.

Consulta en sala

Use in the library - White label/ Red Lettering:

Usually they are dictionaries and general encyclopedias, unpublished documents (TFG / TFM) or material difficult to replace. Printed  journals collection are not allowed to borrow but you can consult them on the Journals Reading Room.

Special loan on holiday periods: in summer, 21 days; at Christmas and Easter, adjusted to the non-school period.
While consulting the catalog, you may find material with other restrictions in other UDC libraries, such as the weekend loan or a 30-days loan (for documents included in the collection of cultural interest). Keep this information in mind when requesting them.

Inter-center loan

Users, through the library or Crunia, can request loans from other UDC libraries without having to travel, so that you will receive and may return the requested documents in the library of your center.

The conditions of the inter-center loan are the same for which the usual loan is ruled, with the exception of the time that passes between the book order and its reception, which normally doesn´t exceed 48 hours. You will receive an email indicating that the requested document is available to be collected.

Once the document arrives, it will be retained in the requesting library on the day of its receipt and the following, and it will be returned to the library borrower on the third day. In the case of 3-days loan documents it will be returned to the second day.

The reference collection, holdings to use in the library and the weekend loan documents can´t be requested through inter-center loan.

You can request by intercenter loan the available documents at the lending desk, by phone or from My Account in Crunia.

Tasks (Renewals & Reservations)

Renewals

You can make as many renewals as you need as long as the books don´t have a reservation.

In that case it won´t be possible to renew and you will have to return them as soon as possible. Exception: documents with a 5-days loan (basically the whole our audio-visual collection) only accept two renewals.

Reservations

Documents can be reserved by any user. You can reserve as many documents as you are allowed to borrow (depending on your type of user). When the document arrives to us, we will send you a message to your UDC email account. You have 48 hours to pick the document up since the message has been received (24 hours in the case of 5-days loan documents). If you don´t come to take the book the reservation will be canceled and will be returned to its place or will pass to the next user who has booked it.

You have to know that if you find a document that you are interested in that has the return date of June of the following year, it is material lent to the faculty or research staff, which is entitled to a loan per academic year, as reflected in the loans table above. That´s not a reason for giving it up. According to Annex I of the UDC Loan Regulations, if another user requests a document from the teaching and research staff (PDI), it has the commitment of provide it within a period of 4 days. Let us know and we will get in touch with the person who has it on loan to ask him/her to return it in order we can borrow it to you. After the loan period, the document will be sent back to the PDI in case it interests him/her.

Ways to carry out the tasks

• Going to the library lending desk.
• By phone, calling 981 167 000, 4815 extension.

Reading History

You can check your previous and historical loans to know what books you have borrowed so far:

Once you identify yourself as a UDC User or Authorized User, you access your Crunia profile. Choose the Library Card option and you will be able to see your active loans, loan history, pending requests and your messages.

Interlibrary loan

The Interlibrary Loan Service allows you locating and obtaining on loan original documents and reproductions that are not in the UDC University Library (BUDC). It also provides other institutions with documents that are available in our collections.

To use this service, the first step is to register in the user's menu in the Interlibrary Loan management program. Members of the university community can be validated with their UDC account.

When you receive your keys you can access the system.

Members of the UDC university community can use this service. Graduate students (except those who are doing the Bachelor Thesis), must present the authorization of a lecturer that justifies the need to use this service to apply for registration: Authorization form.

This service can also be used by authorized users who have the external user card, which will assume the expenses derived from this service.

For more information you can consult the Rules of use.

Returns

As part of the inter-center loan service, you can return your books in any of the 16 libraries of the UDC. We will take care of sending them to the library to which they belong. According to the loan rules it is mandatory to return the books within the deadline. Keep your loans in order by returning and renewing them within the term. In this way, the good functioning of the service can be guaranteed for the benefit of all.

Penalties

Considering the facility you have in renew your loans and the geographical flexibility offered by the intercenter loan, which allows for the return of any UDC library, there are no excuses for the lack of punctuality. Repeated breach of the loan and return rules will mean a temporary suspension of the loan service, so that you won´t be allowed to take any document for as many days as penalty points you have, at a rate of one point per document and day, except weekends and holidays. The system works in sections of 10: 9 fines don´t penalize, but 11 fines penalize during 10 days.

In addition, the deterioration or loss of books will mean its replacement for ones of the same edition. The library directorship will choose one of similar characteristics if it is sold out. The center secretariat may require students and UDC workers (PDI or PAS), at the time they apply for their degree or when the working relationship with the university ends, to regularize their situation with the library in case of having outstanding loans in order to ensure the return or replacement of documents (article 5.4 of the Loan Rules of the UDC library).

Your will receive claim messages of non-return documents and notification of penalties in your UDC email account. Try to keep your account free of space so that the emails don´t come back to us.
