Jerónimo Puertas Agudo

Vice-Rector for Research and Transference

Civil Engineer and PhD from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Professor at the UDC since 1994 and Full Professor since 2003. He is a member of the Department of Civil Engineering, in the area of Hydraulic Engineering, teaching in the School of Civil Engineering, in the degrees of Public Works, Civil Engineering Technology and in the Master in Advanced Water Management.

His main areas of work are urban hydrology, water resources management and flood management. He collaborates frequently with the public sector (Augas de Galicia, MITERD, municipalities in Galicia and the rest of Spain) and private sector (consulting, water and energy companies), nationally and internationally. He collaborates with NGOs, cooperation agencies and multilateral entities (Engineers without Borders, Red Cross, Galician Cooperation, AECID, Inter-American Development Bank, UNDP, World Bank, among others) in drought and flood management projects in Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. He supervised 18 PhD theses and was principal investigator in research projects at regional, state and European level (currently responsible for national projects and WP in H2020 projects).

He is vice-president of the Spanish chapter of the International Association for Hydraulic Research (IAHR), vice-president of the Foundation for the Promotion of Water Engineering (which includes the 7 most relevant public universities in this field) and co-president of the Water Engineering Conference, which is the highest forum for discussion of hydraulic engineering in Spain.

He was coordinator of CITEEC in two different stages, deputy director of the School of Civil Engineering and Deputy of Transfer of the Vice-rectorate for Research and Transfer.

He has six five-year teaching periods, six six-year research and transfer periods and eleven years of management experience in unipersonal positions.
