Lectures in the Bachelor Degrees in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and in Chemistry, in the Master Degree in Environmental Science, Technology and Management, and in the PhD Programme in Environmental Science and Technology. Member of the Educational Innovation Group ChemInnova. Has received the highest Docentia rating in four evaluations.
A member of the competitive reference group React!, his work focuses on understanding the mechanisms of chemical reactions and diffuse environmental pollution, as well as on the development of sustainable technologies for water treatment. He is the author of technical reports, scientific, educational and outreach articles, book chapters, and is a frequent speaker at specialised conferences. Has supervised 15 PhD theses (5 of them abroad). Has taken part in around fifty projects, leading several of them, and actively collaborates with industry through knowledge transfer.
Visiting professor in Padova, Zagreb, Bragança, Rabat, Delft and Naples, and invited researcher at several institutions: universities of Dublin, Newcastle and Coimbra; Institute for Fundamental Research in Organic Chemistry in Fukuoka; and the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory in Braga. Was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie researcher at the Max Planck Institut für Strahlenchemie.
He is IUPAC Fellow, MSC Fellow, and recipient of the 2021 Epifanio Campo Research Award.
Has served as Dean and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Sciences; Coordinator of the Master’s Degree in Environmental and Fundamental Chemistry, the Bachelor’s Degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, External Internships, and International Mobility. He also coordinated the UDC Science Culture Outreach Unit.
At the international level, he is a member of the IUPAC Subcommittee on Structural and Mechanistic Chemistry and of the Standing Committee of the European Symposia on Organic Reactivity.
Has been awarded six recognised five-year teaching periods (quinquenios), five six-year research periods (sexenios), and has more than twenty years of experience in management roles.
