Course Overview

Recently do to science and technology development the significance and the role of historical environments dramatically increases in all over the world and in Armenia
too. Humanity need some sort of return to their roots and identity, valuate their own history, culture and architecture, preserve and keep the important fragments of it and show in a good way to the world. From the urban, architectural and visual points of view the historical character of every city in the World, as well in Armenian cities provides two aspects: urban open spaces, without fences walls and covers, which are mostly open to the natural and climate skim influences, such as streets, squares, residential courtiers, act, and close areas, such as monumental or valuable buildings and structures: the organization, level of its physical preservation, modern modifications in a sample of 2 historical citie s(Yerevan and Gyumri) environment will be analyzed.

Learning Outcomes

Specialized knowledge and insight in the management and conservation of heritage objects, formulates a clear research question related to a heritage problem or a C/R practice, in accordance with a scientific methodology, executes an action plan for the complex heritage object and collection within an imposed and limited time frame, contributes to public knowledge, awareness and experience of the heritage, coming from a knowledge of the broad international heritage field and with insight in relation to his/her own position within a professional (international) network, follows new developments in the domain of conservation, restoration and heritage management and critically evaluates them.

Course Content

During the lectures will be bravely presented:
 The main approaches of reconstruction of historical cities.
 Social-economic conditions of reconstruction of historic cities and its features.
 Sustainable development of open spaces done in two different ways: sustainable use of district for the current generation is required and responsibility towards future generations must be taken into account.
 Urban issues of historic core of cities and they central monitoring as a monument of urban culture, and maintenance of a comprehensive solution to a difficult problem in the field of cultural heritage.
 persistent environmental changes in historical environments.
 Characterization, evaluation and specification of historical and aesthetic qualities of urban units (blocks, streets, squares, religious and protective structures, residential houses, act.) of historical cities.
 Main issues of physical protection of cultural heritage (conservation, reconstruction) and the importance of protection of urban environment historical image.
 Connection of visual image of open spaces and monumental buildings.
 Integrity of historical structures to the nowadays urban environment.
 persistent environmental changes and historical buildings rehabilitation, revitalization and regeneration issues.
 restoration compared to the medical profession, where both a sound knowledge of science and human nature are a prerequisite.
