Course Overview
The course includes among other things: advanced 3D solid modeling and design parameterization, 3D surface design with the application of reverse engineering, sheet metal design (SMD), structural finite element analysis (FEA), introduction to continuous fluid dynamics analysis (CFD), fluid- structure interaction (FSI) analysis, introduction to explicit dynamics (impacts) analysis.

Extend practical skills and knowledge related to selected problems of design with the application of modern CAD/CAE tools.

Part I - advanced CAD design
✓ advanced 3D solid modeling and design parameterization
✓ 3D surface design with the application of reverse engineering

Part II - CAE
✓ structural finite element analysis (FEA)
✓ introduction to continuous fluid dynamics analysis (CFD)
✓ introduction to explicit dynamics (impacts) analysis
Part III - advanced CAD/CAE design technique
✓ fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis
✓ multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO)
Instructional Method
Hands-on training in a computer laboratory with the application of industrial examples.

Assessment
The assessment of the course is based on two individual mini-projects and one group project:
✓ individual/group project (x3)
✓ report (PDF) and/or presentation (x3)
✓ min. 50% of the attendance
Assessment: project – max. 25 points; report/ presentation – max. 10 points
95 – 105 - A/5 EXCELLENT - outstanding performance
88 – 94 – B/4+ VERY GOOD - above the average standard with only minor errors
80 – 87 – C/4 GOOD - generally sound work with some minor errors
70 – 79 – D/3+ SATISFACTORY - fair but with a number of notable errors
55 – 69 – E/3 SUFFICIENT - fair but with significant shortcomings
0 – 54 – F/2 FAIL
