Fashion Sketchbook

Course Overview

This course will give students a chance to create a complete fashion sketchbook. It will allow them to develop their ideas and unlock their creativity for their fashion portfolio. Students will learn new techniques and various development stages in the fashion design process to understand and develop a capsule collection. The course will teach students how and where to source ideas and inspiration and how to develop fashion designs in a fun and fascinating way. Students will be encouraged to challenge themselves through this creative journey that goes along well with the fashion industry. 

Learning Outcomes

By the completion of the course, students should have a complete sketchbook full of ideas, explorations and experimentations. Students should have an understanding of the fashion design process. By the end of the course, students should also gain the confidence to use their imagination and be proactive with their ideas coming to life.

Course Content

Students will learn about, fashion research, fashion design template, fashion sketching/drawing, collaging, and fashion illustration.

The course will not be covering teaching about pattern cutting or sewing.

Instructional Method

The course is delivered through various activities, like workshops, lectures, group activities and individual tutorials.

Required Course Materials

A3 Landscape art sketchbook, a colour & B/W printer, pencils, graphite pencils, colour pencils, any of these(water-based materials like watercolour, acrylics, gouache) brushes, glue sticks, paper scissors.

Assessment Components

LO1 Research and Design Development Sketchbook: 

Knowledge of Contexts, Concepts, and Processes

Knowledge of an exploratory approach in the development of design outcomes.

To include historical, contemporary and contextual images and a variety of approaches. Evidence of a variety of 2D technique experimentations from workshops and evidence of further personal exploration in 2D.

Students required to attend a minimum of 80% of the classes.
