Dr Lisa Watson is an associate professor in the Department of Energy Resources. She has worked in the position since 2014 and has been at the University of Stavanger (UiS) since 2009. She regularly teaches an introductory level geographic information systems (GIS) course which is open to all students in the Science and Technology School at UiS; the first semester the course was available was in Autumn 2009. She has taught a GIS intensive course for the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz, Bolivia in 2017 and 2018. Prior to her position at UiS, she was a research scientist associate at The University of Texas at Austin (UT) Institute for Geophysics from 2002 to 2009; her main duties focused on the creation and maintenance of geographic information data. She received her BA in Liberal Arts focusing on Mycenaean archaeology in 2005 from UT; in 2011, she received her MSc in Geographic Information Management and Applications from Utrecht University; and in 2017, she received her PhD from Utrecht University. Her thesis topic was Spatial based assessment at continental to global-scale: case studies in petroleum exploration and ecosystem services. Her most recent publication is pending with Environmental Research Letters.
