Sustainable Mobility Laboratory

The Sustainable Mobility Laboratory of A Coruña (SusMobLab) was created through collaboration between the City Council of A Coruña and the University of Coruña in 2020, and managed by the Railways and Transport Group (Ferrotrans) of the University of Coruña. SusMobLab's headquarters are at the Higher Technical School of Civil, Canal and Port Engineers.

Its purpose is research, development and transfer of knowledge on issues related to sustainable mobility, both at the urban and metropolitan level. Its long-term objectives are:

  • Compilation and analysis of information on mobility, with the aim of increasing scientific knowledge about it, aimed at a more sustainable and efficient functioning of the city and its metropolitan area. As examples, based on historical data, the influence of various factors on mobility could be studied, including: implementation of platforms reserved for buses; implementation of bicycle lanes; influence of meteorology on mobility in different modes; singular events; commissioning of new infrastructure; etc
  • The final objective would be to have tools with which to propose and analyze the effects on mobility of different actions, through the development of models that allow forecasting the future evolution of mobility and quantitatively evaluating the functioning of the system in different alternative situations.

The financing of this Laboratory by the City Council of A Coruña is appreciated.
