Environmental Radioactivity Lab

Coordination: José Luis Calvo Rolle

The Environmental Radioactivity Lab (LRA-UDC) was set up in 1997 following the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear (CSN), by which it became part of the Red de Estaciones de Muestreo (REM, red densa) de la Red de Vigilancia Radiológica (Revira), being the only one in the entire Autonomous Community of Galicia (NUTS2 level) for this task and with these characteristics. The LRA-UDC carries out radioactivity measurements for samples of air, water, milk, soil and typical diet (food).
The company AENOR has certified compliance with the requirements specified in the ISO 9001: 2015 standard, with the following scope: ‘Design and performance of radioactivity analysis in environmental samples’.
The work of this laboratory is carried out at the CIS Tecnoloxía e Deseño in Ferrol, where it has highly specialised facilities and equipment.
