Embedded within the Amergin Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Estudos Irlandeses, this research group (UDC Code G000224) explores the diverse cultural and social manifestations of contemporary Ireland, focusing on its historical and political development, its literary periods, and its impact on European and Atlantic societies.
The projections of the “Irish Studies” group within this research approach are wide-ranging, with particular interest in the relations between Ireland and Galicia, and between Ireland and Scotland. The group examines Irish cultures through the lens of literature, music, and cinema, as well as minority languages of the Atlantic Area. Furthermore, research extends to Ireland’s twenty-first-century economy, its technological landscape, and the structure of its tourism and business sectors.
In addition, the Irish Studies Research Group brings together the research produced in the four cultural Observatories sponsored by the Institute of Irish Studies: CSSAN (Cultural Studies, Society, and Alternative Narratives); OBANZ (Australian and New Zealand Studies); OPIRET (International Policy and Transcultural Relations); and SAOR (Scotland/Alba Observatory for Research).
