Guidelines for oral examination of PhD theses

Format for presentation of the thesis:

Copies of thesis (all theses should include: thesis summary in Galician, Spanish and English; introduction, objectives, methodology, results, conclusions, bibliography.

Documentatión to be submited to EIDUDC by the Academic PhD Programme Committee, in order to initiate PhD examination process:

All thesis:

• Notice of intention to submit thesis for examination
• One electronic version of thesis (PDF)
• Author's permission for thesis to be deposited in UDC archive (RUC)
• Authorisation of thesis supervisor/s for thesis to be submitted for deposit
• Thesis report issued by a doctor expert in the subject (report by at least 2 experts essential) , PDF 

• *In the case of the International Mention, these reports must be issued by doctors belonging to a higher education institution outside Spain.

• Authorisation of submission for deposit, ratified by Academic PhD Programme Committee
• Nomination of examiners: Appointment of PhD Examination Board
• Statement of eligibility by examination board nominees
• Statement of acceptance of examination board nominees

"International Doctoral" certification:

• Supervisor´s statement authorising mobility period outside of Spain
• Academic PhD Programme Committee statement authorising mobility period outside of Spain
• Original certification of each mobility period spent at third-level institution or research institute outside of Spain
• External experts´ report Doc, PDF

• Declaration of compliance with requirements as an evaluator when not participating as a member of the tribunal (the same as those required to co-direct theses without accredited research experience (EIA) - Available in the forms section)

Joint supervision of PhD theses

• Convenio según modalidade. (https://www.udc.es/gl/eid/internacionalizacion/)
• Original certification of  mobility period (six mouths) spent in diferent university of UDC

Theses submitted as collection of published articles

• Supervisor´s and Academic PhD Programme Committee report explaining why thesis should be presented as a collection of published articles

• Non-PhD co-author permission for work to be presented by candidate as part of his/her PhD thesis and waiver of right to present work as part of any other PhD thesis

• PhD co-author permission for work to be presented by candidate as part of his/her PhD thesis

Theses with data protection:

• Supervisor´s statement report of the thesis about the need of no total or partial publication of the thesis
• Authorisation of Academic PhD Programme Committee for the no total or partial publication of thesis
• One reduced electronic version of thesis (PDF)

Theses submitted in languages other than Galician or Spanish

• Annex to thesis, containing thesis summary in Galician or Spanish (min. 3000 words).

Submission of thesis for examination

• Commitment of confidentiality and secret of the thesis doctoral (by the members of the examination board only for thesis with data protection)

Thesis defence

• National Thesis Library of Spain (TESEO) WORD-PDF  index entry signed by the secretary of the examination board.

Cum laude (distinction) award

• Procedures for collecting and counting of votes for cum laude (CP 26-11-2021)
